1997 GCC “Analysis Points to Economic Losses in Developing Countries From U N Climate Change Policies” News Release

This document is a February 27th, 1997 News Release from the Global Climate Coalition (GCC) covering a report by the Charles River Associates titled, “World Economic Impacts of US Commitment to Medium Term Carbon Emission Limits.” According to the release, the report found that, “a large number of developing nations will suffer significant economic harm from global climate change policies now under consideration by the United Nations.”

In its materials, the GCC often relied on the Charles Rivers Associates (CRA), with studies led by David Montgomery.

The industry-funded GCC opposed greenhouse gas regulations through direct engagement and collaboration with affiliated climate deniers from 1989 to 2002. Its membership spanned across the automotive, utility, manufacturing, petroleum, and mining industries.
